Conspiracy Theories (Blog 2)

 Expert Introduction

My expert on conspiracy theories is Professor Brian Heagney, an instructor of game design at High Point University. He is a conspiracy theory enthusiast! He loves to hear new points of view and various theories about the whereabouts of certain events, people, and places. Because of his deep interest in conspiracy theories and his research of them, I, therefore, consider him an expert for this assignment.

Technical Summarization

Using the “Arrange and Edit Multitrack Clips with Audition” tutorial (Adobe, 2021), I was able to cut, copy, and rearrange small snippets and clips of my long, unedited interview to formulate my shortened and edited interview. I used the time selection tool to highlight the portion that I wanted to make a separate clip, changed to the move tool, copied the highlighted area, and pasted the new clip to the next track. I then formulated all the mini clips into a new track. Also, for one of my clips, my expert was excited in the beginning and his volume was extremely loud compared to the rest of the clip. I used the razor tool to divide the clip and isolate the area needing a lower volume.

Narrative Design for Story Arc in Upcoming Audio Story

I tried to arrange the new clips in such a way to show the development of the “story arc” (Abumrad & Krulwich, 2014). From Professor Heagney’s research and my personal research on conspiracy theories, my story arc will describe how when a person creates a theory, they know something does not seem right but is not quite sure what isn’t right. They gather evidence to prove their claim and they think that their case is settled. But when someone with an opposing view poses a question and challenges that evidence, the theorist has to go back to the drawing board. And this cycle repeats, and repeats, and repeats! This cycle will have you thinking that you know something and that you’ve figured it out, but then you realize that you are in a rabbit hole. And in all actuality, you end up not knowing what you thought you knew or not knowing anything at all! That’s what I believe my story arc will be based on my expert interview and I hope you can begin to see it through my edited interview.
